byzon3 wrote:Ow good like an easy swap.. if you randomly remember what type of bulb very keen to know. also with your set, does the light stay on all the time or just when the afs is active ie turning?

Just when afs is active Hope this helps,

ended up getting out my spare set and having a little play, basically you
1. remove the dust cover
2. Unplug the corresponding connection
3. Twist globe mount (counter clockwise from memory)
4. Remove/replace bulb
the last couple pics are them on (the red is just a painted shield note:it does not effect the light output from the projector, and is only visible at applicable angles)
Sorry for the iPad spec pics :p and the dirty car, hope this helps

I'm such an idiot, didn't realize I needed 2 globes for the CJ, separate ones for low and high beams. Which is a shame as it almost doubles the cost at around $150 for a set of 4. Thats a big chunk towards whole new head light fittings, maybe with built in DRLs and angel eyes.

I know all the numbers but in the real world is there a lot of difference between the different after market globes?

Also for high way travel is it better to just upgrade the high beam or do you need to do all of them at once?

Sp I'd like to mention something I noticed today. I changed my dome light today and purchased some 12v 5w LEDs and on changing them noticed in the manual and also on the enclosure that it had listed that I need a12v8w globes? This is confusing. I have a my15 lancer. Nonetheless the 5w ones work just seem quite dull

I just bought $10 LED ones from Supercheap Auto that were a 31mm festoon bulb and they seemed to work fine in mine, didn't really check any of the specs just went looking for 31mm festoon ones. They are definitely brighter than the stock ones.

You can get the same thing much cheaper on eBay...

Speaking of, are these any good for the reversing lights as an upgrade?

Can anyone post pics of what their tail/brake lights look like with LED equivalents in there (preferably in stock housing)?

Keen to buy, but only if they look decent.

Just wondering which brand of head light bulb do others recommend?

SCA has Phillips and Narva in various models of brightness.

Over all the Phillips cost a bit more but does that mean they are better?

I was looking at the Arctic Blue ones with the HB3 at $71.49 and $64.95 for the HB4.

I'm more interested in knowing which is the better brightness to get for HWY use, do the Arctic Blue ones actually have 50% more light?

SCA has the Philips WhiteVision globes for $40 each pair for the HB3 and HB4. They are 4100k and the same wattage as the stock ones.

Will they make a difference to the amount of light I get or just change the color closer to white, do I need more powerful ones for more light?

I have the Philips Xtreme vision bulbs (+100% 3350K) in the low beam light only (HB4) and to be honest notice little real difference, there does seem to be more light to the sides and a little whiter, but about the same forward.

The thing to remember with lights is that yellower light actually projects further but white light gives better colour representation so appears brighter. For highway driving you can mostly use high beams (when permitted) which project fairly well with the stock bulbs.

Also the higher kelvin the light usually the shorter life it will have as it has to burn brighter. And if the white light is gained by using a blue filter then it will give even less light overall as intensity is lost to the filter, which the Whitevision and Crystal vision blubs both have.

So white mostly for the look, stock or warmer colour for distance.
