Fog Lamps with angels eyes DRLs

Postby BarbC » Thu Aug 04, 2016 9:34 pm

Got these off ebay

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Front-Bumper ... Swc1FXcM-K

Need some info please?

Do these need to be programmed into the etac unit?

Are there plugs/sockets already in the car for these?

They arrive on Fri or Sat I think

Hopefully the wiring is there. The plug should be just below the bonnet latch behind the grille.I'm fairly certain you will have to get the etacs looked at.Does your indicator/ headlamp switch have the foglight switch in it?.

I just purchased these last week: Osram LED Multi Fog Lamp Hi/Lo + DRL + Light Sensor With E-marked For Lancer
(Order Has Not Arrived Yet)
"Osram" Hi & Lo LED Chips 12W.
"EPISTAR" DRL LED Chips 1W.
Lens Material: Glass
Housing Material: Aluminum
"E" Marked for Aust'n Approval /Usage.

I've never been a fan of the "Halo Ring" design on the Fog Lamps.

Not a fan of the DRL's that place a rectangular strip next to the lamp.

The OEM design completely eliminates the Fog Lamp Function/Appearance.

Keeping an eye on both of these. SAM, when you get them installed would you be able to write up how the install went? I'm curious as to how the High/Low works on those foggies, I assume they are just controlled with normal head-light high/low beam, which is interesting. Never really considered any need for high/low fog lights, though I do love the fog lights on my VRX, they add a significant amount of extra light off to the peripherals when driving at night, super useful.

Like the Angel Eyes but I went for the DRLs, and to make the fitting more stealth I painted them black, works better than the chrome IMHO.

Skrallex asked & wrote: I'm curious as to how the High/Low works on those foggies, I assume they are just controlled with normal head-light high/low beam, which is interesting.

Modes:
1. DRL Mode: Turned on by ACC >> High Beam and Low Beam = OFF.
2. Low Beam Mode: Low Beam ON >> DRL and High Beam = OFF.
3. High Beam Mode: High Beam ON >> DRL and Low Beam = OFF.

Functions:
1. Daytime Running Light Function: DRL will be turned "ON" in Daytime Automatically.

2. Fog Light / Low Beam Function: When turned "ON" stock Fog Light / Low Beam,
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> LED Multi Fog Light will switch to Fog Light / Low Beam mode.

3. High Beam Function: When turn "ON" stock High Beam light,
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> LED Multi Fog Light will switch to High Beam mode.

4. Light Sense Function: When car drives into a tunnel or other dark place,
LED Multi Fog Light's High Beam mode will be turned "ON" automatically by the LIGHT SENSOR.

FYI my DRLs are wired to come on when I start the car, some have them wired with the ACC. Also they dim when I put the parkers (and higher) on, that is just how they work. There is no setting to have them turn off when the other lights are on, many factory ones are like this. Not had any issues with the police.

Not to derail the thread too much but those lights posted by SAM-24A seem like they have a bit of a flaw.

They have a light sensor that turns on the fog high beam when light levels are low such as entering a tunnel. The video shows they come on fairly quickly in a tunnel.

Depending on sensitivity I could see this being a real nuisance to other road users, imagine If overpasses or tree/building shadows trigger this. It would be like your flashing cars in front all the time.

Yeah I noticed that, seems odd that the high beam would come on in a tunnel/automatically at night too. If anything, should just be low beam on the fogs until you turn your head lights to high beam.

@ Mooman & Skrallex

You guys are absolutely correct in assuming that this Auto ON/OFF Light Sensor may be a nuisance.
I did notice before I purchased & realise I don't really want that feature.

Simply not using the Light Sensor (by hiding it somewhere ) will only trigger it to operate as programmed *doh*
Cutting the wiring that leads to the sensor basically causes the same effect.
Shorting the wiring, by cutting & joining them together, again causes the same effect.

I did some Google searching about deactivating it properly, and found that a 1 > 1.5K Ohm Resistor placed in the wiring will disable the sensor :D

Hope It Works ..... Auto Electrics is NOT one of my strong points.
If any of you Electronic Geeks know this will work or can suggest otherwise, then please chime in an shed some advice *thumb*

@ turbogirl ... sorry, this new web layout doesn't show a members first name as it use to previously
Maybe something for Kav to look into.

I will keep this thread posted on the install & set-up of the wiring.
The good part about these is that the individual wiring for Low & Hi Beams can be connected to suit your preference.
The Auto "On/Off" Light Sensor can be Deactivated via the inclusion of a Resistor.
The only wiring that is set by default is the DRL function which turns "ON" at the point of Accessories / Ignition.

"What a Big Fizza" :( *faint*

These "OSRAM" LED DRL's finally arrived a week ago.
Osram LED Multi Fog Lamp Hi/Lo + DRL + Light Sensor With E-marked For Lancer
Image

This is what I got:
Chinese "YEATS - SKYWOLF RADIANCE" --- Not Genuine "OSRAM" as Advertised on their EBay Ad.
Image

They are 10mm larger in diameter & the Mounting Brackets are all wrong, don't match.
The OEM Fog Light is shown on the Left in the pics.

Image

The Front Lens was "Plastic" -- NOT -- "Glass" and they were -- NOT -- "E" Marked as Advertised on their EBay Ad

They Offered me a 30% discount if I was willing to Mod the front Fog Light Grilles and Brackets to make them fit
I Politely Declined their Ridiculous Offer  and reminded them of their overwhelming content of False & Misleading EBay Advertising.
I promptly requested a Full Refund & Reimbursement of Return Postage to China, or I would raise a Dispute with PayPal asap.
They willingly accepted my request, I posted the item back and have since received a credit for all costs :D

Damn, such a shame, would have loved to see how the genuine ones turned out. Do the genuine ones actually exist for the Lancer?
