looking for some help on HID's

Postby jbosianek » Thu Aug 01, 2013 5:28 pm

new here, i had a bit of a bit using the search function but couldnt really find anything that was relevent to me.

i want to upgrade my 2010 VRX lancer to HID's both hi and low beams.

im pretty sure i have halogen projectors. it has a cone looking thing infront of the low beam light.

is it as simple as swapping out the halogens for a HID conversion kit?

cheers.

yep. i have already looked at their website.
so would those be able to be fitted to my car straight up?

so if i wanted to do my high beams and low beams would i just purchase 2x kits?

not sure on the difference though. their site only has the 9006s which are the lows im pretty sure

You will have reflectors (90% sure anyway), have a look... if theres lots of little mirrors inside the headlight housing, reflectors.. if there's a lense looking thing, they are projectors.

Pretty much, HID's in reflector housings are definitely Illegal but as long as you have them adjusted properly, you shouldn't draw any attention to yourself.

HIDs in projector housings are still illegal unless you have all the levelers washers etc (someone else will be able to clarify this as I'm no expert!).

Yes, it is as easy as plug and play though.. hardest part is finding a place to mount the ballast haha.

FYI, I probably wouldn't go HIDs for high beams, I have them but they're a pain in the bum... they take about 3-6 seconds to warm up and with the high beams, they're constantly on/off (unless you have alot of dark, straight, empty roads out your way).

there looks to be a reflector type surround, but not too sure about the cone looking thing. anyways...

how do i adjust them? i have seen on some websites about it being quite glarey?

thanks for your advice on the high HIDs - would i be better off just trying to get a 6000k colour thats comparable in a halogen?

Yeah they'd be reflectors.

Not sure how to explain how to adjust it tbh, I'll try and take a photo a bit later, but it's a single screw that adjusts highs and lows together.

No probs mate, it's a friendly community here, you'll definitely get all the info. and more that you're after :)

there are little screw things in the back of the headlights that you turn to adjust the height. Youtube has a clip of a guy adjusting his. Found it just the other day as i was adjusting mine as well.

I'd suggest not getting HID's for highbeams as it really isnt necessary. Having put my HID's on this past week I've found that the light travels further then normal halogen globes and gives about 95% of the light that the halogen highbeam does.

Hey Jared, those headlights are great. Thats what I have on now... from the same guys.

This is the group that sells them: http://www.carwear.com.au/~carwear/new/

so you might want to talk to them if you have any concerns. Note also for autoleveling - if you opt for it - it might not work depending if you have the wires or not. My car did not and i opted not to get the leveling motor etc which made it slightly cheaper. Anyway you could contact them directly and they might just sell you the projectors. Might try mentioning that a lot of your fellow club members have recently bought from them. I know of four including myself that has bought off them in the last month or two

oh also, Install took about 1hr:30min on an RA. Need to remove the front bar. However everything just slots in perfect.

The key to HID's is a bit of common sence. The most common HID kits are 55watt, thats way to bright for reflectors. There is a 35watt kit that is about the same light intencity as a halogen globe. Also if you adjust the headlight propperly HIDs produce less glare for on coming trafic. I have them fitted to my car and have had no problems at all, been stopped a few times by cops and they have never mentioned them. Also 6000K is thr most you would want to go, 8000K is blue and will really draw attention.
