Finally found this thread again!

Anyway I've just bought an Outlander cluster on eBay, should get it next week. It has about 15k more than my VRX is on so my options are to wait probably a year until the kays match and DIY the install or pay to have it altered and filled.

The cluster arrived today.

I've got a few leads on where to get the kays reset but just wondering where other have going in the Brisbane area and the cost?

Looks like I'll be getting the odometer reset on the 29th, a place in Sunnybank Hills for $100, will take about an hour.

Just need a guide on how to change the cluster, seen some pics on line but that aren't complete.

Changing the cluster in the dash itself?

Yeah I have some idea of what need to be removed and in what order, but a guide with picks would be useful or even just some pointers.

The main bit I'm stuck on is do you need to remove the AC vents in the middle and on the right. If so I've heard you need to be very careful of the connections for the stock HU. In the next week I want to remove the parts so I have some understanding before I take it in, the more I can help the less it could cost.

I'm sitting here staring at my dash right now and I think it'd be fairly safe to say that the centre AC vents will need to come out. The one on the right should be able to stay in place.

All of my experience with dismantling dashboards has been in Mazdas where the middle AC vent must be removed to take out the cluster, along with the top half of the indicator/wiper stalk surround. Looking at it in front of me I'd be confident that it'll be the same in the Lancer.

Thanks, guess I'll just dive in and see how I go.

It would be really cool if someone with the know how could take any modern cluster, rip out the guts and put in a hi-def LCD screen built to fit with rounded ends. Then customize the display for a full digital cluster like those found on some top cars today. Just imagine being able to customize with GPS or cameras right there in front of you. I do think it's technically possible but would cost a fortune for the custom LCD alone.

Was delayed until next week.

New plan is next Tuesday but that's 50/50 right now, will keep updated. I'm gonna document the process with lost of photos.

Got it fitted, looks cool and took less than an hour including getting the Odometer changed, only minor glitch he was unable to get it exactly to the same reading so it's about 500km less than it should be. But I've taken photos and made notes so many in the future I can have the adjusted again.

But on the bright side it looks cool, all appears to be working. One thing I noticed how much clearer the speedo is, with the small markings it's much easier to get an exact reading of your speed. Also it's better having the RPM on the left now!

Car taken apart, only had to disconnect the cluster it's self. Was able to twist the panels to get them out of the way.

Looking good.

Pretty strait forward swap, even with the HU face, just left the wires connected and rotated the face to sit it in front of the gear leaver. The same when it came to the cluster face panel. Only hassle was having to unscrew and clip the knee airbag panel to get to the other pits and then the cluster. But yes with a screw driver and panel removal tool it was an easy job most can do in less than 30 minutes.

Upside is I know have a better understanding of how to swap out the head unit when the time comes.
