Appreciate the tips bumblebee, but it sounds like more hassle than it's worth. I'll just keep running a $15 cheapie from eBay which does okay, but I'll be rely on shoulder checks as well *facepalm*

Lancer1993 wrote:The only issue I have with my after market rev cam is being down at the number plate level its very low and while better than no camera a higher mount would be better.

Ironically I damaged my bumper last year because I relied on the mirrors and didn't see a post dead centre of the car.

That's why I'd love the OEM one, at least 2' higher than an aftermarket one.
Yep - reversed into an AC unit (I think) that was just high enough from the ground to nick my boot.
I got three options:
1. Change the boot completely to the more recent model with the stock reverse camera.
2. Repair the dent, paint it.
3. Cover it with a duck bill spoiler. However I plan on installing a custom spoiler soon and to have two spoilers would look silly I think.

Still weighing it all up.

If you fireup eBay and search on
Reverse camera 4 led
That's the camera I used to replace the OEM one with

Trust me it's oh so worth the effort to replace if your car doesn't have the OEM wiring to plug it into and you want to retrofit the boot to a vehicle that doesn't have the reverse camera in the first place.
The higher mounting position of the OEM camera is such a great idea.
Most certainly way better then the licence plate mounted ones any day.

Mine is the type that replaced one of the number plate lights (has its own led for that side) it works good, its hardly visible so better than the OEM one and I think mine has some form of night vision as you can see better with it at night than the side mirrors.

I do wish Mitsubishi had stuck with a boot mounted number plate on the sedan and not moved it down to the bumper on the CJ, so it would have been higher.

It wasn't my car that I did it to.
However
Leave it with me and I will get in touch with them and get them to send me photos of it

Yeah mines about about the same hight but on the other side.

Just thought, would be cool if someone had made a 3rd brake light with the camera built in, yeah it might need to stick out a little but it could go at one end and be up nice and high for a better POV. Just a though.

Seriously why didn't Mitsubishi think of this?

If a guy (or girl) can DIY this at home why can't one of the worlds biggest auto makers come up with a better solution than sticking the camera in the middle of the boot lid?

Mitsubishi would spend millions on R&D, China would knock something out in a few weeks and it will work and cost next to nothing to buy online.

Buy cheap
Buy twice
