Rust Spot on Roof

Postby Lancer1993 » Sun Mar 12, 2017 4:55 pm

So washing the CJ this morning and I noticed a tiny rust spot on the roof, we're talking a couple of mm across.
I'm gonna get is checked out and I know it would mean a total roof respray but just considering the other options.
Considering wrapping the roof so maybe a spot fix for now is the best option, that said I don't want the wrap to add to the problems later on.

You're better off just getting the roof repsrayed. It would save $$$$$$$$$$$ long term.

Wrapping it will not solve the issue.

Wack on some rust paint then wrapping is something you might do sell the car, you'd want to be careful buying any car with a fresh wrap on the roof or bonnet.

From past experience I know it's about $300 to do the roof, maybe more on the CJ as they have to get the antenna out of the way, so more time spent.

I'll get it checked and a quote ASAP.

I got some cheap SCA Wash & Wax (the pink one) on sale for the foam wash, then used some Bowden's Own Wash Gel to do the lower panels before finishing it off with my leather shammy... why can't you buy proper leather shammys anymore?

BTW the cheap SCA W&W works a lot better than the more expensive Bowden's Own Wash Gel for the foam gun which was a cheap one from Auto Barn, couldn't find one at SCA!

I use the Turtle Wax rinseless "wash & wax", so you don't need to use the hose at all, it's rather nice, and works well if the car isn't super dirty at the time. If it's super dirty, 2 washes will prevent you from destroying your microfibre cloths. I also reapplied a super hard shell wax a few washes ago, so for the next few washes it's just a spray on wax over the top, keeps it nice and shiny. After that, I'll hit it with a clay bar and reapply super hardshell wax for the next 6 or so washes. Works well for me, though you gotta dedicate a few hours for the claybar + super hard shell wash.

Car needed a general was as went through about 100m of unpaved road works the other week on a 300km drive to the Gold Coast and got crap down the sides. But it really needs a full day wash, wax and polish. Maybe a cut n polish on along with the clay bar.

You should try a clay bar on it if you haven't before. Not cheap, but trust me, wellllllll worth the money. I'm sure plenty here also agree.
