Rear Diffuser

Postby sarusa » Mon Jan 09, 2017 8:28 am

Have checked out past threads, and internet.Looking for more current input.

Contemplating fitting rear lower diffuser to my MY15 ES Sport. Interested in whats available and opinion of whats best and worst.
Pictures appreciated if available. OEM diffuser is rather meager and $412 ($189 US $240 Ad in America) but local dealer couldn't find it. :?:

Edit:- Ouch!! Just rang Mitsubishi dealer re oem diffuser $576 double US price !!!!! ridiculous as it is basic only. :o

By the OEM diffuser you mean the stock one that comes with the Ralliart? I've been eyeing up rear diffusers for a while now and I agree the Ralliart diffuser is a bit on the meagre side however it's a direct clip on fit from what I know. Personally, have been looking at a the EVO X Style Rear Bumper w/ Twin Exhausts sold by Mars Performance. (http://marsperformance.com.au/Evolution ... in-Exhaust). It is rather expensive costly though and I'd probably have to get an exhaust the same time as the stock exhaust doesn't fit it. You'd also have to get it painted to whatever colour your car is. I do think it's one of the best looking ones though.

lol Even if it was, this is what the oem std: diffuser looks like, with a couple of small deflectors underneath, undetectable in the picture.
I have decided to go with Talon diffuser.

Need to use a flash on the photo to show the diffuser better.

Does these diffusers do anything on a stock CJ apart from a style change?

No, they are only cosmetic as are all aero devices on road cars.

Thanks aspir3, my comments were based on the fact that the oem diffuser covers the same area and ads a few bits under then wants an astronomical price for it. Possibly the dearest bit of non discript plastic this side of the black stump.

I've seen a Talon rear diffuser on a VRX and it looked quite good.

You also have the option of an RA Rear Bar (which look mint) but it's going to have a bit more hassle than just the diffuser such as a Talon.

Personally i feel the talon rear diffuser only looks good on a black car due to the poor fitting quality. The gaps are large in areas and can be filled with black sikaflex to cover the gaps.
It would be a lot of work on any other color car to fit properly. You need to spend many many hours dry fitting it and removing the high spots to get the gaps to an acceptable size

Re gaps on edges. If problem persists on being intrusive whole of top edge can be hidden under for example wheel arch moulding which is available in 10mm or 15mm, chrome or black or painted to match whatever color you are using. Would also form a precise acceptable, some might say attractive, distinctive join, as seen as original on some brands of cars. 8)
