3. Cosworth or TOG air filter. Actually the stock paper filter is not a bad unit.
4. Intake grill mod. This is the done by removing the grill in front of the snorkle intake. There are good threads on this hearabouts.
5. Merlin Tune. Some top end improvements, much stronger mid range and a lot better throttle response. Some fuel economy improvement too.

Use the stock airbox and suction pipe for best results with all these mods and you wont get defected.

Would cat back or 2.5 inch muffler make any difference?

Well yes, some. But the mods I listed are the main factors.

In the exhaust system the CAT is the weakest point.

Great breakdown of what can can be done. Thanks.
Will 200 cell Cat still be legal? ie:correct emission wise? :)

I believe it is a legal product.

Lol Note other than 200 cell cat: you make no other mention to exhaust. forgetting headers which I feel will only be done by a few.
what if any advantage is there, in for example, either 2.25 inch or 2.5 inch cat: back or axle back exhaust.

figured to continue the thread rather than start new

^with the advantages, i already have a 2.5" axle back, will that have any further effect (positive and/or negative) if a 200 Cell Cat was installed?

Still learning the ropes with performance so bear with me hahaha

the stock CAT is the biggest restriction in the exhaust, regardless of the other components.
so yes doing the 200 cell CAT will help power across the board.

Perhaps I should mention that over the years I have been tuning the CJ I have seen some strange and less than perfect twin outlet mufflers.
Some are setup such that one side, generally the right side pipe has more negative pressure than positive pressure.
In other words it is sucking air into the muffler and the bulk of the actual exhaust is exiting from the left tip.

Holding a sheet of paper up to the exhaust tips at idle will give a good indication.

Wonder how that affects the XForce twin outlet Varex muffler? :?

i'm assuming that this could effect the potential gains, seeing as i'm not trying to push out every kW i can would this make a huge difference?

Again im a newbie to this to bear with me hahaha

do the CAT upgrade if you are after every last kw on offer.

Hey Merlin, look! Another Sportback!!

I'd love a new catback for my lancer but eh, lots of effort for minimal gains. I'll probably make a rear muffler delete at some stage instead.
