Sportback Spoiler Installation help?

Postby DTGriff » Mon Nov 05, 2012 12:41 pm

Hi Guys!,

Finally getting my rear spoiler for the naked sportback!

2 issues...
1. Doesn't come with fixings/fittings - Does anybody know where I can get these?.
2. Does anyone know how to fit the spoiler that might be able to offer some help?

Also is it true that tints need to be applied prior to installation of the spoiler?

Cheers :)

Nobody?

Got all my issues sorted except the installation.

Body shop told me there should be drill points inside the hatch... can't find them!

David, I cant tell on mine how it is acttually attached without stripping the Hatch. The last wing i put on (Not a CJ) i used stainless self tappers and went through the hatch into the spoiler making sure i put heaps of rust preventative in before using adhesive sikaflex as well to make sure it wasnt going to fly off along the high way. You would be surprised at how much force is on them.
The tinting side....wont make any difference if the wing is there or not. The tint is applied on the inside not the outside.

There will probably be more peeps on here tonight. If you still have no luck i will try and have a look at mine on the weekend for you and take some pics.

Cheers.

Cheers Peter really appreciate that!

I'm going crazy here!. I've checked the spoiler and it has 3 threaded holes on each side so I've got 2 choices...

1. Source some screws to match the thread size, drill 3 holes aimlessly, hope their right and use the threaded screws to secure the spoiler.

OR

2. Use Sika-Flex Pro to secure the whole thing!.

The odd thing is..., I've put the spoiler up against the car and it doesn't seem to fit flush!.

Hoping theres a Sportback at the next Vic meet so I can take a look!

Hey David,
Ill try and get some all round pics for you 2mrw and email them to you. Did you get the VRX or the standard wing? Im not sure if the VRX wing is as big as the Ralliart one or if they are the same. There may be small variances because the Ralliart is pretty dam wide when you look at it

Anyone handy with a drill in the Melbourne wanna earn an easy $50 or a crate of beer?

Found the size of the bolts from the Mitsubishi dealer so I just need 3 accurate holes drilling into either side of my hatch :).

to mark out the bolt holes correctly you need to come up with a way to mark them while positioning the spoiler. i would use masking tape, cover both feet of the spoiler in masking tape with about 5cm over hanging the edge, then poke the holes through the masking tape with a pen were the threads are. get someone to help you position the spoiler and using the overhang of the tape, tape the template down to the car. pull the spoiler straight off the car and the template should remain behind, leaving a guide of were the holes need to be drilled
