Yes it can be done. Lze-eye and Mitch have both installed it.

There is a metel frame behind the roof lining there to clip it in to already.

You just need to cut the hole in the roof lining and then wire it up from the centre dome lights.

The wiring is easy enough to do. Just unscrew the centre dome light. Attach the wiring and feed it through the roof with a coat hanger wire.

Yes it is. That is why I fitted a centre dome light.

Once you buy the map lights you will be able to work out what electrical connections to use. The models that come out with map lights do have a wiring plug. You may be able to get one at the wreckers but really there is no need. just use a red wire for the power and black for the earth (door switch). Just buy the correct size insulated wire connectors.

The template should be the same as the steel frame behind but check that it matches with the map lights. You can make one out of paper or cardboard just to check before cutting the hole. Or you can check against another members Lancer that has the Map light. They just pull out as they are held in with small metal spring clips.

Please see another members Lancer with the map light. Pull it out of the roof lining and you will see how simple it is.

Thanks for the information. I've been very curious for awhile now if I can install some map lights into my 2008 ES. Its a bit of a pain not being able to have lights at the front of the car instead of turning on the main dome lights.

Hi all,

I purchase the map light quite some time ago and finally got around and install it.

It works whenever the door is open, but I just can't seem to turn it on individually. I tap it into the dome light, the dome light work as usual but the the map light would only turn on if the door is open

If you look at the map light there are three pins on the right.

On those cars that come with it, there are 3 wires on the right:

You tap the red and black from the dome light itself.

The Yellow you tap from ACC (i.e. a wire which is 12V when the car is on).

The 12V from the yellow wire will allow you to turn on and off your map lamps.

Ok thanks again Ofey.

Have to get around and search for the 12V wire. Took the A-pillar out previously and pretty sure is not there

Yes. certainly it won't be there. You won't have the wiring harness for it.

You will need to tap it from the passenger side fuse box.

I need to go hunt around for it too soon for the seat heating exercise Troy and me are now trying to figure out.
