GAS STRUT - HOOD LIFTERS

Postby SAM-24A » Thu Dec 31, 2009 2:18 pm

There’s been a lot of interest about the Hood Lifter Gas Struts which were mentioned and seen at the Sydney Homebush meet. (3 different set-ups)

Mine are modelled of the original one’s which appeared in the US from a company called Redline Tuning, called Quick-lift Plus @ $84.95 + $35 freight out of the US = $119.95 US, times the Aust $ exchange rate @ approx .88 = $136 Aust

Product: http://www.redlinetuning.com/QL-MITSU-LANCER-08+.html
Installation Guide: http://www.redlinetuning.com/manuals/QL ... 8+_101.pdf
Operation Video: http://www.redlinetuning.com/qt/Redline ... er_08+.MOV

The person I got mine from a friend Ming Kuang, who owns: GAS STRUTS DIRECT (Sydney) 54-58 Princess Hwy Arncliffe 2205 (a few doors from our wheel sponsor TALEBS)

He is one the largest suppliers in the Sydney CBD, and he’s always on the road doing deliveries and installations so don’t bother visiting the factory.

I’ve just spoken to Ming on the phone and he’s willing to supply the Strut Kit for approx $100, which includes Stainless Steel angled brackets instead of the black mild-steel brackets supplied in the Redline kit.

Download and/or print off the installation guide above, and install with a “little time and patience”. (All you need to add is 4 3/16" pop rivets)

I’m going to see Ming, straight after New Years Day because he wants to double check the strut model and pressure range to confirm stock levels.

"As soon as this is done I will post and inform you all about availability and firm price".

For those of you in Victoria try Australian Gas Springs at Lifteasy at 29 Tower Court Noble Park Vic 3174 on 9769-0288: http://www.lifteasy.com/ . Ofey contacted them back in May.

For those of you in Queensland contact: Hotlance (Dave) he had the other great set-up, maybe he remembers the supplier details.

I dont remember the details about the third set-up, my apologies, perhaps that person can respond.

Happy New Year & Cheers: Sam

Adrian found some that only need to use the standard under hood bolts.. rather than popping in rivets.. does anyone know what brand these are, or where to get them?

Good on you for starting this up again. I had a problem sourcing for the brackets. Lifteasy doesn't have the right brackets.

Hotlanc got his from Struts-R-Us on the Gold Coast.

Mention the club and you have a CJ Lancer and it's $105 from memory. They have all the gear there ready to go.

Notice how these ones bolt up to the factory locations... No extra mounting holes required!!

Since they're in QLD, will one of the Mods there try and pull off a group buy?

The struts through "lift easy" here in VIC are A$22 for a pair. I don't know how much the brackets are from strutsRus.

I can pick up the struts, QLD can pick up the brackets and then we can get them for half the price.

So perhaps we can save here and there and pull it off... .

They bloke at Sturts R Us tried a lot of different lengths and pressures until he got the perfect ones. And he even has some worked out for the lighter bonnet of the RA/Evo.

They won't do a cheaper bulk buy price, as the already are giving it to us cheaper, thanks to Dave (hotlanc) organising it with them.

I'm not saying he should charge us any cheaper but since I can get struts for A$22, how much are the pair of brackets?

What I did was ask DVS to measure out the ones from Redline. My guys here in VIC had no problems working out the pressures mathematically.

So A$105 - A$22 = A$83 for 4 brackets?

LOLz. I ordered some on ebay last night. I wasn't even at the sydney meet. :D I think the ones I ordered are made by sokie tech (taiwanese) will have to see how good the build is. They're direct bolt on ones too.

Edit: spelling.

Ofey, they may be different lengths or pressures... maybe the QLD supplier will not separate the purchase into brackets alone..

I don't think $105 is a bad price, especially when you don't have to adulterate the vehicle.

I went for black CF from this seller (alvoturk9000). USD$79 shipped http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290384241722&fromMakeTrack=true&ssPageName=VIP:watchlink:top:en

Here are the various ones I looked at from the same seller;
There is the plain black for USD$74 shipped. (alvoturk9000) http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISaAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290384511737&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
Then the silver CF at USD$104 (ouch!). (alvoturk9000) http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300380701204&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT

Other sellers:
Pricey but looks like a decent build USD$104 (hyper_rev_motors)
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370304599170&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT

This one looks like the same build as alvoturk9000's black but seems to be branded as "nextek" not "sokie tech" and is a couple of dollars dearer (mtech_power) http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2009-Mitsubishi-Lancer-EVO-10-EVO-X-Bonnet-Hood-Damper_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem1c0efb407dQQitemZ120510431357QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

Hope that helps.
