Steering Wheel Control Install

Hey guys,

So I'm planning on getting a new steering from a wreckers that has Steering Wheel Controls on the steering wheel as mine doesn't. Has anyone ever done this before and can give me some insight on what sort of wiring I have to go through. Just have no idea on how to do this. I can not find any other post or videos about this anywhere on youtube or Google.

Basically

1. My car doesn't have SWC
2. Want to get a wheel that does
3. Want to hook it up to my current stereo and make it behave like it was there stock.

Thanks

Others have done this here, I think it depends on the year your CJ was built if the basic wiring is in place. If it is then its basically plug in and play.

Do a search for more info...

Ok cause my car is the base model 2010 ES so it has no steering wheels controls installed. Would they still be there or would it be something that I would have to do myself?

The basic wiring might be their, my 09 VRX has the wiring for the reverse sensors but did not come with them, was told I can get the parts and plug them in for it to work. Your steering controls might be the same.

When building the cars they often use the same basic wiring harness for all models in the range just not installing some parts on some models.

If it's just the volume buttons you don't need a new steering wheel, you can just buy the switches. Just remove your blanking piece first and check that the plug is there.

Check behind the steering wheel and you will see a hole where the screw goes.

Spot on
The wiring is already there
The ES has a cover plate on it where the audio controls go
There is a single Philip head screw to remove from the rear of the OEM steering wheel
Remove that and wiggle the cover plate out
You will find a small plug with 5 pins on it. It's brown in colour. That is for the audio controls.
Plug it in and your in business.
Make sure to have the car turned off before doing this

It's just because that my steering wheel seems to be different to every other that I've seen, it looks something like this

Interesting

The photo sure looks left handed to me when iook at it.
Unless the photo is somehow reversed by magic.

Haven't seen a OEM wheel with nothing on it before like that.
If worst comes to worst you could disconnect the battery for a while and remove the steering wheel all together and replace it.
Or
Have a look at the back of the steering wheel down the bottom there is a small rectangular cover that pops off. Pop it off and see what you can see in it.
