WINDOW TINTING

Postby sarusa » Tue Oct 25, 2016 1:58 pm

Side and rear windows tinted. Needed in the Lancer apparently due to fade rate of interior.
Looks great and somehow makes the car quieter, less wind noise coming through the glass perhaps.
Job done through a highly recommended party. Top quality material cost $220.
will let you Know how things are going as time passes by. :D

What percentage did you get them tinted to?

As Bumblebee said don't take it as gospel it is a document released by a company that makes window tint. Check with your state authority for the correct info.Only this week I failed a car for rego because the windows were way too dark he showed me the receipt which stated it was only 15%. He had just got the job done so it meant a trip back to the tinters to have it redone.

Spot on again.

The boys in blue will give you a fine if the tint is too dark they can and do have ways and means of testing it

Those of your with privacy glass that you can't see thru are a different story all together.

I'm not too clued up on it here, but provided your car came with the tint from factory, as some say Privacy glass, you're in the clear, I know the VR-X has some quite dark glass on it, you can see shapes in the back seat, but can't make out any features. but strangely most of the other VR-Xs I see around have clear front door glass, where mine are quite dark. but there is no film on them...

Here is a PDF to the Vicroads Standards
Here is a PDF to the Transport NSW standards
Here is a Link to QLD Transports FAQ about window tinting
Here is a PDF to the SA Gov Regulations
Here is a PDF to the WA Gov Standards
Here is a PDF to the NT Standards
And a PDF for TAS who updated theirs in December last year...

Back in NZ if your vehicle was registered as a commercial vehicle and to a business you could have as dark as 5% in the rear past the front door glass, and 20% in the rear passenger door glass. Private vehicles were 15% all round. I had a wagon and got away with 20% in the rears and 15% in the front for many years, actually I believe it could still have the same tints on it. And if you got pulled over, there was a compliance period where you got the tints tested and if the tints came back okay the fine was waived, (not every Highway Patrol car carries a light meter).

Cheers Darryl, most regulations are well buried in pages of legislation, but these popped up pretty easy, only a couple were difficult, but now we all have a point of reference.

Hey MODs, make this a sticky!

Very nice research
Currently Qld has laws that state in private vehicles the front windows to be 35% and rear windows 20% and you can have a strip across the top of the windscreen at 5%
Commercial vehicles are different.
From what I have seen Northern Territory have the darkest legal where you can have 15% for the rear windows.
The stock tint you get on your lancer from the local car yard is absolute garbage
It's a horrible light grey type colour and does absolutely zero to reduce interior heat.
There is a few different window tint places round so do some hunting and see what their prices are look and look at what you get for your money. The most expensive tint may not necessarily be the best out there.
Enjoy a much cooler car so much that when you open the door you no longer feel like you opened the door to an oven or volcano.
There is some great special's running at the moment also and can get the old tint removed for as little as $50 for the lot!

Thanks for the info, got my VRX front windows tinted here in QLD right after I got it. Saved a packet not having to do the others. Got the darkest legal and it cost me about $200!

I got my lancer done a few weeks ago and just touched over the legal limit, I got 18% all around. The guy that done my tint said that 90% of his work is the 18% stuff and he has only had two people come back with defects.

one of the first things i did for my 2 front, but kept it legal only cause my car is black and didnt want any issues when driving at night. only thing i wish i did more was, the mirroring of the tint. wish i increased that instead of just doing the basic 20% mirroring.

which probably leads to my question anyone know if i can get that just added or would they need to remove the tint and start again?
im assuming for the privacy glass it would be easily fit as there is no tint for that but more worried that it would cost me the same as getting a whole new tint job done for the front 2.
