Interesting, didn't know they included the VIN, but it makes sense as a way to know if someone is lying and cheating the system.

Not got any error codes on my and I've had it installed for almost 2 years now.

BEST MOD EVER!

Should have asked, what is the best way to deal with the VIN issue, if it is a problem?

Its in the EEPROM dump in plain ASCII so when you're adjusting the odometer change the VIN as well. You only need to change the last few characters to match the car. If a dealer did a scan a VIN mismatch could come up and that could raise questions.

My cluster was from an Outlander, so the whole VIN might need changing.

Won't worry about it for now, might look into it when its time to sell. Might need to find a better guy in the Brisbane/Sunshine Coast (or Gold Coast) area, anyone know of someone who can do it and not charge a fortune?

Here's some reading from service manual:

Interestingly only elapsed days and distance are relevant and should be able to be adjusted by a MUTIII tool at a dealer.

Tried asking my dealer a simply question, can you turn on the auto door lock function (when you go over a set speed) and they could not answer me, think its because I was speaking to the guy at the desk and not the tech who might actually know.

I'll brink it up at the next service, but I doubt they even realised its not the stock cluster

Old service manual so options may have changed:

I think all you can do is have doors auto unlock when put in P but you would have to manually lock the door.

Wow thats a lot of info, thanks.

Took a looking could not see anything about locking at a set speed, so many its not an option on the CJ, don't know about the CF. And I have a manual, so no P selection option on my car. Also I don't like the idea the doors unlock the instant you put the car in Park. So if you have kids in the back or its dark do you really want the doors unlocked until you're ready? I prefer the system that locks the doors automatically, but leaves it up to the driver to unlock them when they are ready.

Thanks again.

You have a manual car? You just get the over 20km lock turned on and unlock when car is turned off. Thats how I did it on my wife's ,manual car.

Thanks, the over 20 is ok, but setting to 10 or 15 might be better, JMO

Again unlocking when you turn the car off, not ideal. I'd rather have it so the driver has to manually unlock the door.

Guess I need to go in, and talk to them again.

after a few months of assuming the dash cluster was functioning normally I plugged in a MUT III to adjust the service reminder and guess what, it came up with an active DTC odometer error!

I couldn't clear it so it looks like I'll have to unsolder the chip again and check out what's going on. I did change the VIN but there must also be some other checksum in there.

Makes me wonder what would happen if my dealer needs to put the MUT on my car. I did ask them before the swap if it was okay and they didn't care. But if there is an error would they have to note or report it?

I really don't think a dealer would notice, it only shows up when you do meter diagnostics and they probably won't go there unless there is a problem with the cluster.

It just bugs me that there is an error logged.

Little OT but I still have my old cluster, no real plans to use it again, is it worth selling?
I've seen them on eBay from about $100.
