Climate Control AC

Just wondering why Mitsy changed the AC controls over the years, I noticed in my MY09 the temp control is on the right and in 1/2 deg increments. While later models have the temp dial on the left and 1 deg increments.
It seams like a step back for a couple of reason, first less control over the temp and being on the left you now have to reach further to change it.
Don't know about others but I have my CC set to auto fan and direction and just adjust it via the temp most of the time. And because of this it's much easier to change with it on the left.
Anyone had both types in there CJs and noticed the difference?
