All I did was cut a round hole in the wheel cover!

Well actually I bought a new 3ply sheet and some felt from Bunnings as I wanted to keep the stock floor, just in case. But it means I have my full size spare on 'show' when its not covered in junk floating around my boot LOL

Yes its upside down but its a nice place to store stuff!

Its not for everyone, I did try and make a raised floor with gas strut but it didn't work out. You do loose a bit of space as the stock raised floor basically fills the space with styrofoam.

Correct you do lose a little bit if boot space as the floor is rasied slightly to accommodate the height of the full sized wheel and i can live with that as im looking for a "stealth" installation to begin with :-)

Each to their own, I just know without those few extra inches around the tire we would never have fit all our crap when we went interstate for a few weeks last year. And I mean PACKED!

Roof racks and a pod or a small "classic industries " motorcycle trailer for the win

Ive bought a ralliart boot kit to have the raised floor when i had to hide the tank for my airbag suspension.
It is literally a few pieces of foam glued onto the timber sheet.
Might be worth doing a diy :)
I paid waaay too much for the floor ($200)

Good point.. i have been toying with the idea of using foam and sticking it to the boot of the car with "gorilla" double sided tape.
Do you still have the kit installed in your vehicle?
Can i trouble you please for some photos of how it all looks and in particular how thick is the foam eg height from the top of the foam to where it gets glued to in the boot.
Thanks

I also want to get a proper spare for my Lancer

Craig, that's a great workaround you've got. Not for everyone, but as you say, means you still get to have the extra space around (and in) the wheel! Will look at doing that myself

How much did the felt cost you roughly? And did Bunnings have a good colour match of the existing? (Looks spot on, but also grey is a pretty generic colour to begin with..)

Bunnings has a couple of choices, one is a pretty close match can't remember which I got. It does get pretty narrow around the back of the wheel so you need to be careful it doesn't break, I used the felt to make it stronger. Only and issue when you remove it but my hope is I can remove the wheel if needed without taking the floor out but it was a tight fit how I did it. I glued the felt to the top and used the excess bits as padding on the underside to protect the boot floor paint.

Ok cool. Thanks for all the info. Will eventually look into this mod, although it's further down the list/ budget at the moment. But appreciate the tips. I'll have to have a proper look of the boot space sometime. And yeah, good idea with running the excess felt under as extra protection

Cheers

i no longer own the car, just go look at a ralliart for dimensions etc
it is just foam pieces stuck on, could even use super glue if you wanted to

I used the spray on glue, spray both the board and felt, leave for a few minutes (its on the can) then stick them together!

I've been thinking of making a raised boot floor to accommodate the full size spare, but having some hinged-lid areas where I can put some of the tools I tend to have in my car at all times. Would probably make up a new floor rather than use the stock one, would have to have a proper look and see where I can fit some recesses without compromising the load capacity of it.
