Regarding the 10 inch audio unit for lancer

Postby MysteryGuy2107 » Wed May 13, 2020 12:31 pm

:hallo:

I am actually new to this forum and its been about 10 months since I bought a 2011 lancer sx (Its my first car actually :D ). So I was scouting on youtube regarding the mods which I can do and I came across with this...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QbtUX6QXXts&t=1s

https://www.amazon.com.au/s?k=sygav+lan ... nb_sb_noss

So, I started doing my research regarding this audio system and I got some questions :-

1. How do I get to know which music system I own? Some say its a rockford fosgate system but my car doesnt have that sticker to confirm that and since I dont run CD (Who does that in these days), I have no idea that do I have a 6 CD changer unit or a single CD unit.

2. Does this audio system works with the controls on the steering wheel?

3. Since this system comes with its own microphone and since my car already got bluetooth and mic to take calls, is there any way to use that same mic which is already in the car?

4. Is this thing even worth to upgrade??

I would appreciate a lot if anyone can help me out with this.
Cheers!

The Biggest question you forget to ask is

When this unit is faulty , who repairs it?
Do I send it back to USA to be fixed?
Is there a local service agent?
What's their usual turn around time for repair?
How reliable is the unit?

My preference
Kenwood
At least it can be fixed in Australia

And if I want to sell it I can and gets a decent resale value on it

The no name brand stuff good luck getting a decent resale value on it

Hi MysteryGuy,
seems you have a 6CD stacker in built on base model. Its not a Rockford Fosgate system or there would be logos on your dash.
You can control volume and song choices/stations with the steering wheel.
It also has bluetooth functionality.
Worthy of an upgrade? Absolutely! I would try and get a Mitsubishi OEM upgrade but the cost is expensive unless you have money to commit.
Or....you can upgrade with an Alpine, Clarion, Pioneer system that can fit the dash unit below;
https://www.scosche.com/2007-12-mitsubishi-lancer-din-w-pkt-dbl-din-kit
Below theres a step guide on some brave man that has done this already;

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PVIxUqHNxW4
Make sure you get an aftermarket system with bluetooth functionality so you can use the buttons on steering wheel to take calls.
Do your homework and you will be ok.

Thanks guys for your repiles but these things raise some more questions in my mind,

1. Instead of just changing the main unit, should I first change the OEM speakers to the rockford fosgate then proceed to change the main unit?

2. Is there a difference in the unit itself based on what side the driver side is at?

3. How hard is it to hook up a rear camera as well and is it possible to get the OEM styled camera or should I go for the link at the bottom?

https://www.amazon.com.au/SYGAV-Reverse ... B01JC90LT4

4. Can you suggest any other useful upgrades which I can do on my stock Lancer SX??

And Btw, what was in Mitsubishi's mind when they made this 'SX' trim in the first place?? I mean they've mixed the features and there is no information whatsoever on the net to find out what features are there in MY lancer since there is not a lot of proper information regarding the features and technical things about the SX trim.

Thanks in advance!

If you want to go nuts and upgrade speaker you might be better off to upgrade the amp as well
This will start to cost some $ if.you want to do it right.
Sadly too many people spend a truck load of $ on speaker and half a semi decent header unit and put .20 cents into an amp and wonder why it sounds like crapola.
The amp is what does all the hard work and gives you decent sound
You can get away with low end speaker and still have a great sound inside the car
I have a Kenwood ddx9017dabs HU , Alpine pdx-f6 amp, and door speakers are Jaycar 6.5 inch Kevlar and front doors also have seperate one inch tweeters , 80wrms pearless I think from memory they are.
More then loud enough to go deaf with.
And for some bass a fusion 12 inch sub in the boot, self powered. Works a treat.

As for upgrade to do
There is tons to do
Depends what you want to do?
Stereo?
Suspension?
Engine performance?

These topics are covered quite compressively on this forum currently, yes the threads are old, the info is still 100% current

Ronaficionado.....dude! You have no idea how much easy you just made my life by sending me the links for this, thanks a lot bro!

And speaking of upgrades, I am looking for some small, cheap and reliable upgrades in all the aspects like performance and aesthetics. I was doing some research and peeps were recommending to go for a tune by Merlin who I believe lives in Brisbane which is just almost impossible for me to go since I live in Melbourne. I also searched for some other parts like a cold intake and so on but this raises another question in my mind which I think is a bit dumb but i've seen peeps talk about it a lot and that is, how similar the internals, externals and so on are similar between a lancer X and an Evo X?

https://www.findapart.com.au/

Your one stop shop for a truck load of wreckers Australia wide

Buy the tactrix open port that I told you
You can do a remote tune with . Merlin via email
Very simple and easy process to do

https://www.tiperformance.com.au/produc ... -ecuflash/

4b11T and 4b11 motors are quite dissimilar internally

CAI are vastly over rated , there is only one that actually works , can't remember the name
Nothing wrong with OEM stuff, go nuts and wrap it as per photo links provided

The vast majority of your questions have been answered before

Spend some time reading thru this forum thru the threads , you have much to digest

And some good heat wrap
Ditch the OEM air snorkel replace with Ralliart
Get some exhaust wrap and wrap the radiator hoses also to reduce heat under the bonnet
