New member, with query about Year/ Model of CJ Lancer

Hi all,

New here to the forum, and to owning a CJ Lancer (years back I owned a little '02 CE Coupe). Anyway, mostly just looking to put a nice exhaust on the new Lancer I've bought; a second-hand 2011 ES CJ Lancer, although part of the reason I'm here is to try to confirm whether it's an 11 or possibly a 12 model.
The dealership/ rego papers have it down as a 2011 Lancer, however, the build date is 01/2012. And the main difference I seem to note between an 11 and 12 is the run of the exhaust; 11 is more central and does an east west bend at the axle back component, whereas 12 seems to be offset to driver's side (in Aus) and exhuast runs over back axle..

Is this correct? Can anyone confirm that it's a 2012 model, if my exhaust is offset and runs over back axle?

I've learnt all this in the past week, when trying to purchase a new exhaust. Just looking at an axle back system at this point, but looks like I'll have to import from US

Thanks heaps, for any assistance and expertise

Cheers

2012 model classified MY12 not sure where that can be found on car. MY12 cross over point much the same except for miner facelift items and interior instrument panel variations to current model. muffler running across in earlier models.

Look up car sales on internet and have a look see at the differences.

You are right about the exhaust for MY12, it is a smaller oval unit on drivers side.

Also some other changes to MY12 are no rear swaybar, under bonnet are only two bolt points for fenders whereas earlier had four (front points removed which affects mounting of some aftermarket gas struts), crankcase has a different moulding such that common lightened crank pulleys won't fit, and MY12 came with electric power steering as opposed to hydraulic.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the info. So (after seeing something in another post about it), I had a look on the passenger's side for the plate with info on it, and for mine, it actually says SEP 11 build date, but the model ends with M12, which my guess, confirms that it is a MY12?!

But yeah, I'm looking at getting an SRS axleback exhaust from CA, so really wanting to make sure I've got the right details, and buy the right part. Everything I've seen and read now though, I am pretty confident that it's an MY12, and the exhaust that I'm looking at should fit on perfectly. Now to have the funds for it..

Cheers

That photo shows tip offset to one side. Should be central!!

What do you mean? Should be central if it is MY11? That is what I have gathered, which from what I have also gathered, means it's actually an MY12..
Seems to be that 12-onwards, the exhaust is offset to driver's side, and runs over back axle.. And the exhausts that I have found available on eBay seem to confirm that..

Not referring to muffler just the outlet tip at the rear. As it is on my MY15!? :?

Ah, right.. I'm with you. Possibly changed tip position post-12?! But yours runs same position as this, otherwise?

Normally model year doesn't coincide with build year, next years models usually come out mid year before. Eg. (dates not exact) MY12 can be built from July 2011 until June 2012.

From photo it looks like a >MY12 and the linked muffler should fit.

Some food for thought, do you have a CVT? If so i'd suggest to steer clear of exhaust mods as they can be noisy and droning.

Thanks for info

Sorry, what is a CVT? I'm looking to get a Ralliart Air Intake and K&N filter (or similar; TOG is $70 on eBay and looks to be ok), which I will probably do before the exhaust, but still keen on an exhaust although don't want one too loud. They all seem to be the same 2.5" with 4" tip though, and I just want a direct fit/ no welding, modding, etc.
