the engines are fairly good. easy to work on and cheap. if your looking into putting a turbo on the standard 4B11, i wouldnt bother. they dont have forged internals and run a compression ratio of 10:1 so anything more than 5-6 PSI seems to snap rods and slice the block open. better off getting the 4B11t out of a ralliart or evo if you want to turbo.
as for the CVT, its a good transmission providing you look after it, very quick off the mark. the down side to them is i would not run too much power through them as they will slip and die. they also lose about 15-20% of the engines power from the flywheel to the drive shafts.

				Thanks for the warm welcome
Thanks for the info Kalum, I had begun to get that impression thanks to this forum

I gather that it is not just "add a turbo", I would imagine that once I get the kit car on the road and running, I could look at doing a complete conversion to an appropriate engine / trans combination - down the track.
I've been really impressed by the amount of information available on the 4B11, and it is sounding more promising than I originally thought
Good to hear some feedback on the CVT too! I haven't driven one at all, need to do a dealer test drive soon to get a seat of the pants feel for it.

welcome , if u were intrested in the CVT go the 4B11 .... other wise as u are aware if you go the 4B11T u will be looking at a SST trans unless ur get an engine out of a Base model GSR evo x as a manual ??? depends on the transmission , personally i wouldnt turbo a CVT transmission

The cvt has power limitations
