liam - Vic

Postby liam09 » Fri Dec 21, 2012 4:57 pm

Hi all, I've recently acquired an 09 lancer ES, stock as a rock, 60,000 km's, 5 speed manual.
I'm new to cj's (somewhat) but this is the third lancer I've owned, a 2l ch, most recently a 2.4 ch, that was unfortunately written off while parked.
here's the thread if any of you are on Auslancer
http://www.auslancer.com/forum/viewtopi ... iam%27s+ch

The stock handling is quite good, much better than the CH stock, however I'll need to do a bit of work before I'm happy.
the plan at the moment is (spread out over 6 months or so):
bc gold coilovers, 17x8 wheels (i'll need to look into fitment of course), the basic exhaust/intake, extractors, and I believe an ecu reflash is available fairly easily for the cj, sway bar upgrade, strut brace, brake discs+pads, and thats the battle plan so far. some in car entertainment maybe, and minor aesthetics like tinting, wind deflectors, etc.

Image

anyway, g'day, I look forward to learning more about the CJ and where it can be improved.

Liam! Don't get corrupted haha

We should do another pancake parlour meet, last one was quite good. Going to miss your CH though, too many CE's and Mirage's everywhere :P

Haha no danger of being corrupted but no harm in broadening my horizons, and yes last AL meet was decent can never get enough cheese kransky with pancakes

I will miss the CH, it was just starting to get good with coils, bracing, etc. , I don't think it's handling potential will match what the CJ feels like it could do, and the aftermarket support for the CJ feels a little bit broader than what was available for the 4g69.
being a newer car I won't feel as bad throwing my cash at it as well.

welcome to the club, best thing to do personally is first mod to tighten up steering and help in corners, an ultra racing front strut brace, and if u dont want to sound like every other cj lancer with a bolt on exhaust, go custom like i have :)

feel free to send me a pm or if u on and i am on chat. talk away. enjoy all the reading there is to do on here lol. theres alot.

cheers mate, I'm a bit of a Whiteline fan boy so i'd probably get the strut brace, rear sway bar first. hopefully tighten up a bit of that understeer.
that and I'm friends with a supplier so I get them fairly cheap.

as for exhaust, will see how I go when I get to that point, local shop is fairly good, and generally listen to what I want with decent workmanship, but if the bolt ons have proven results I may go down that route. I think i'll go for a more subtle level of noise with this car. (Which is probably loud for a few of you guys :P )

One thing I'm curious about though, the active stability control constantly feels like it's trying to kill me, maybe i'm just new to it, but whenever I take a sharp corner with it on, it'll understeer me straight towards the kerb. with it off it'll slide a bit more but typically straighten up more predictably towards where I actually want to go.
