CVT vs Manual is a never ending debate, I'm CVT myself but that's just because of the driving I do.

Welcome to CCJ!

I presume that the TJ you had before had a 5-speed auto, right? The CVT takes some getting used to, particularly the whining, hesitant nature accelerating from zero. But it's very smooth on the freeway, and you're at the right rpm all the time. It's tuned more for economy than performance. Since your Lancer is still new, it has yet to stretch its legs, so it won't be that responsive yet. Give it 2,000 kms and a couple of services, and you should feel that it's lighter on its feet.

And since you're in Sydney, you can read about the Merlin tune around our forums. If you want to wring out the car's hidden potential, you can have him work on it.

@Squala - no, I had a 5sp manual TJ, but have driven a lot of conventional autos too - hence my.. curiosity over the feel of the CVT. It's unlike any other transmissions I've driven.
