Re: Quiet tyres

I know, but if the lining ever gets damaged... Like my front left lining for smashed by a bird a couple of years ago. In any case, it's unfortunate they went to cost saving and weight reduction over comfort. Properly sound deadened, modernised, direct injection equivalent of the 4J12, I'm sure they'...

Re: Quiet tyres

If you look inside the wheel arch at the rear side, there is a thin bit of liner around the whole arch. This covers up a 'huge' cavity that extends up into the windscreen pillar. I think a lot of the noise at the front of the car comes from here, as the cavity would amplify the sound? Not sure on th...

Re: A/C compressor worth replacing?

Yes, air conditioning service is separate. Like I said earlier, it's essential a suitable (NOT alternative) gas is used.

Re: Quiet tyres

I'd look at the Michelin Primacy 4 tyres, which replace the older Primacy 3 versions. In that size there's not much price difference between that and the XM2, which are older but great tyres. The XM2 may give fractionally better fuel economy as they belong to the fuel conserving class of tyres. Up t...

Re: Ralliart P0365 CEL

Info varies slightly depending on where you look and the type of battery, but generally should be about 12.6 V or above. A fully charged lead acid battery is more like 13.2 V or something. If you're getting down to 12 V it's considerably discharged. You don't need to disconnect the battery to charge...

Re: Ralliart P0365 CEL

How old is the battery? These engines don't require much CCA to start so a bad battery may appear to start fine but cause the ECU to go wonky. You could try purchasing a decent battery charger. They don't go amiss, and the multi stage chargers help extend the life of the battery. They eventually pay...

Re: A/C compressor worth replacing?

When was the last time the AC was serviced? It can do that when it is getting low on gas. The regassing includes the lubricant, which is why you should run the AC occasionally even in winter. Be careful with the regas though, there are lots of different gases and many of them can damage the units. J...

Re: Engine stalling

Interesting it cuts out when you remove the load, I can only guess at possible reasons. If you press the accelerator slightly when you press the clutch does it still cut out? When you remove the load like that fuel suddenly greatly reduces, and the throttle body butterfly valve mostly closes. If the...

Re: Replace Transmission

I wonder if they checked the fault code before or after changing the fluid. It's a bit rich of them to charge $1100 for something they say needs replacing asap for $15,000. They should be able to provide an itemised bill and you can see what cost that money, whether it was excessive fluid value or l...

Re: Regular oil changes

You can only get a year or 10k/15k service intervals with fully synthetic oil. A cheap mineral oil won't do. Sure, fully synthetic costs more (Penrite HPR 5 is a good balance of quality and price), but since the service interval is greater and is much better for the engine it's actually cheaper.

Re: Pollen Filter Replacement

$20 still isn't bad. I'm not sure how good those really cheap ones are, whether they're actually activated carbon, just normal carbon, or coloured paper. Also the filter micron may be greater (filters less fibre particles). At least getting a branded one like the one I mentioned or Sakura you'd hope...

I preferred to buy mine posted from an Australia, and by an Australian company (obviously made in China or elsewhere). Postage times from overseas can be hit and miss.

Re: Pollen Filter Replacement

What cabin filters do people prefer? Last two filters I've used are the activated carbon one from Micro Filters Australia (CF182C). The one I recently bought was advertised as Wesfil, but got the equivalent Micro Filters One. For $15 delivered can't complain. On a side note, not sure how good Aerofl...

Re: Proximity Key Boot Issue?

The boot button is designed to be pressed twice to avoid accidental opening. You just press it quickly twice, no hassle :D. As for the other buttons, if your key has the light check the brightness. You may see it isn't fully bright the first time pressed. Electrical contact spray (get a decent quali...

Re: Which service should I get?

Why do you need the TOG filter, I guess you have the stock one currently? Keep in mind the 2013? onwards 4B11 engines have a different air filter box and you need a different filter. These dams engines also don't require the power steering flush as it's now electric. It lists timing belt under the 1...
